Everyday necklaces

I've been looking for a dainty every day necklace lately.  Something a little classic but also modern.  Gold preferred but my wallet could probably handle a silver/gold fill mix better.  These two lovelies are on their way to me right now for a trial run--any other suggestions?

Something old and something new:  found this amber glass jewelry box at an estate sale a while ago that then spurred me to purchase this beautiful J Crew necklace. It's super gorgeous in real life but I'm afraid it's way too glamorous for my every day life.  I'm trying to keep my wardrobe purchases functional but isn't fashion partly about having something a little fun and extravagant and over the top?  Now I just need an invite to a gala or benefit (or just dinner!)

Jewelry making

In keeping with my new year's resolution to create more with my hands, I've been working on some jewelry pieces.  I've been especially drawn to triangles and chevron prints so these brass findings were fun to put together.

I also finally took the time to put new bails and chains on vintage items that I've been collecting for a while now.  These are really special--a spinner charm (that reads "I love you" when you spin it), an old watch key, and some unique travel charms from New Zealand.

I really enjoy creating something new out of the old and if you do too, these items will be at our vintage pop up shop on Saturday--hope to see you there!

Vintage cobalt blue necklace

This is a treasured piece in my jewelry collection--I love the bright blue and the last time I wore it, it paired nicely with an orange silk dress.  I'm excited about Spring and wearing more color again--what are you looking forward to fashion-wise this Spring?

DIY: nail polish + rhinestone jewelry

Tom Binns was my first exposure to rhinestones and neon, and soon after, lots of bloggers went on a DIY spree and created their own amazing low cost versions.  While the idea of painting over perfectly good vintage jewelry pains me, this is a great idea for jewelry that is in less than stellar condition (darkened rhinestones for example) or in colors that you might otherwise not wear.  Because isn't that really what it's all about?  To be able to wear and enjoy items, not just let it sit untouched.  In the above picture, I took a rhinestone bracelet and painted it alternating navy and hot pink, then finished with a coat of clear gloss.

This bracelet went from 1990's pink ice rhinestones to a more current hot pink.

This was a fun and simple project (watch out for paint fumes) and I really like the idea of breathing new life into jewelry that might otherwise be forgotten or saved in hopes of a special occasion.  Every day is an occasion!
