When in Rome

This maxi skirt is one of my favorite buys from Rome.  It's from a little shop called Le Nou found on on the tiny magical shopping street of Via del Boschetto.  These chic ladies sew their own line and even did a few quick alterations for me while I waited.  I found this guide immensely helpful when looking for some artisan, one of a kind purchases in Rome.

Nation dress

I've been wanting a nude dress all summer long and now that I've finally found one, I can't figure out what to do with it.  I like a nude dress in theory, but actually wearing one is a bit daunting.  I wanted to pair it with a bright color (so no one would mistake me for being naked) and went with this bright blue cardigan (that is more cobalt in real life than purple in this picture).  The accessories were chosen in about the 20 seconds I had remaining before I had to leave the house.  And yes, those are my second pair of No.6 t-strap clogs--they're insanely comfortable and were on sale, I'll wear them all the time I swear!  Anyways, I'd like to wear this dress again, but need some help.  I think I might hem it a bit (the hem can be cut just like Rachel Pally dresses, yay!), but what would you pair with it?  I need details!

Watercolors

I am partial to watercolor prints and their timeless appeal.  This dress is at least 40 years old and yet I can imagine a similar print on current runways and magazines.  I've been trying to be super picky about my prints lately, buying for longevity instead of cutesy prints that will be dated in a few years (put a bird on it, anyone?).  However, if I do see anything with a llama on it, all bets are off!

Armor

It wasn't until I got to work that I realized I chose this specific outfit as armor against an anticipated difficult day.  I needed to have all my ducks in a row, ready to do battle, and my outfit was my first line of defense.

ps: sorry this was the only outfit picture that came out.  I was super paranoid that a mosquito was buzzing around me but it turned out to be a poor defenseless plant instead.

Comfy outfit

I got myself out of bed this morning by promising that I could wear a sweatshirt to work today.  This particular sweatshirt from Anthropologie is super cozy and cropped, perfect to wear with skirts.  I've worn this Candace Ang necklace numerous times but haven't remembered to take a detail shot till now.  It has little brass dipped quills, very cool and of course I had to copy Grechen when I saw hers.

Birthday!

My birthday outfit--went to the Anthro sale early for some dealz and then BK took me out for breakfast with lots of scones and clotted cream.  I finally broke out my new T by Alexander Wang asymmetrical top--it is so lovely on, I'm addicted!

A love hate relationship

I have a love/hate relationship with jeans and pants.  I love that they keep me warm, but I absolutely hate how they look on me.  Due to my body shape (pear, bottom heavy), it's challenging to find pants that fit properly, let alone look good once they're on.  I've gravitated towards wide leg jeans and pants because I guess camouflage is part of human nature.  However, a wise stylist kindly told me that baggy pants weren't exactly flattering either and encouraged me towards trying slimmer pants.   I'm still not going all out emo skinny jeans or leggings, but here is my compromise.  With the weather turning cooler, I've either got to figure out how to pose in pants or find me some fleece lined leggings to wear with my beloved dresses and skirts.  Am I the only one out there that hates pants? *crickets*
