So I'm off on vacation for a few weeks and it's been crazy trying to pack for hot sunny weather and windy cold weather at the same time. I envisioned a finely edited wardrobe of maxi skirts and dresses made weather appropriate by adding a sweater or cardigan but then it started to get complicated with shoes (tennis shoes, ballet flats, wedges, comfort shoes, flat sandals, flip flops, oh my!) and packing went downhill very quickly. So needless to say, it shall be a very interesting trip and I hope to post some coherent travel outfit pictures. More than likely it'll be pictures of food, but I'll try!

Ace and Jig market dress
Ace and Jig makes some of my favorite prints and their amazing fabrics are light and so comfortable. That being said, I've not had a lot of luck with the fit of their items. I totally get that it's supposed to be easy, effortless, pull on and go type of clothing, but that means that that you either end up with shapeless, billowy, tent-like items or you get stuck while trying to put things on or take them off and throw out your neck in the process (true story). Zippers or buttons would go a long way in helping ensure a nice fit (esp on the bodice). My alterations lady helped me out quite a bit on this dress and I am super pleased with it. I'm still a fan and will be looking forward to future Ace and Jig collections.

Steven Alan sample sale
All week long, I've been impatiently waiting on my order from the Steven Alan sample sale to arrive. I forked over some money for priority shipping and it was on target to arrive today. However when I got home, instead of my highly anticipated package, there was the dreaded UPS "sorry we missed you" tag on the door. DAGNABIT signature confirmation! DAGNABIT ALL TO HECK! (lol sorry, pretend cursing is funnier to me than regular cursing)
I'm just consoling myself with these pictures for now...(psst, the sale is on for another 3 hours--go check it out!)

Target Merona chambray dress
I love all things chambray and this little dress caught my eye while I was at Target last week heaping things into my shopping cart (why do I always go in for two things and end up with fifteen items?). Anyways, this little dress is super cute and comfy to wear--it comes with a fabric belt that I subbed out--it's a great basic for the hot summer months ahead!

Jcrew stripe button front dress
I need a stripe intervention! This dress was marked down even more in store so with my teacher discount, I gleefully spirited it away. The fit on the bodice is a bit like a halter top, it cuts in at the shoulders and has kind of large arm holes, which visually widens my shoulders so I look a linebacker. Thank goodness I have a closet full of cardigans to help hide that fact.

Vintage paisley shift dress
One of my favorite vintage dresses (although I seem to say that about all my dresses). I'm crazy for paisley and this vintage Japanese print is just gorgeous. The dress was about 3 sizes too big and my trusty alterations lady turned it into a sleek shift dress for me.

Jcrew hilary dress
Absolutely adore this Hilary dress (on super sale at the Chicago Jcrew!). The shape is classic and it's easy to dress up or down with cardigans, bright necklaces and different belts. I'm a bit torn on the length--keep it tea length or hem you think?

Steven Alan Hannah
I kept kicking myself for missing out on Jcrew's souvenir dress and wasn't willing to pay overinflated ebay prices. Thankfully, this little Steven Alan number came along via myhabit (a huge addiction of mine--sample sale prices with quick and free shipping and returns? yes please!). The Hannah is made of a lovely silk material and its casual shape is perfect for work and weekend shopping trips. Take that overpriced Jcrew ebay goods!
