Fall uniform

I'm pretty sure this is going to be a standard outfit I'll wear this fall--a maxi dress or skirt with a short sleeved sweater over it.  Now I just have to hunt down a few more cropped sweaters--have you seen any good ones lately?

Target Merona chambray dress

I love all things chambray and this little dress caught my eye while I was at Target last week heaping things into my shopping cart (why do I always go in for two things and end up with fifteen items?).  Anyways, this little dress is super cute and comfy to wear--it comes with a fabric belt that I subbed out--it's a great basic for the hot summer months ahead!

Target Holleen sandals

I almost caved and bought these two tone flat sandals but then saw these awesome ones on sale in the Target ad this week.  The Holleen sandals are actually in the little girl's section but the largest size 5 is actually equivalent to a women's sz 7.  Yay!  They are cute and comfortable so far and exactly the type of sandal I'll wear to the ground this summer so I didn't want to spend too much.  I got the black/tan because they were on my list, but for $12, I'm not sure I can resist the pink or the yellow!  Any favorite buys from the weekend?

Teal skirt

This teal skirt immediately caught my eye at an estate sale and after a quick hemming, it went from sister wife to a more contemporary length.  The fabric is actually a little nubby and the weight and drape of the material is perfect.  I'll be pairing this with stripes next when the weather warms up!

Jason Wu for Target

Jason Wu for Target hits stores on February 5th.  Here's a good article about Wu's inspiration for the line.  The cat print is awesome and I'm loving the stripes and lady like looks.

Art deco

Yay--it's so nice to be home this week on break and be able to take outfit pictures outside in this great 70 degree weather!  This sweater was a great find at Target--it's a thin cotton knit with a lovely drapey fit and comes in many bright colors!  I was tempted by the mustard and turquoise as well.

DVF cropped jacket

I got this little DVF jacket from a front stoop sale in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.  These fashionable gals had a rack of their vintage and gently used clothing for sale and I picked up this winner for $10!  Also they complimented me on my shoes and I didn't detect any mocking or sarcasm in their tone so score one for comfort shoes!  I'm usually shy with mixing patterns but went with it anyway.  Can't wait to pair this jacket with a maxi dress next!

Anthropologie Explorations Skirt

I've been loving maxi skirts for the spring/summer and am happy that they are also versatile for fall and cooler weather.  Not that the weather was cooler but at least it's not 100 degrees right now!  B actually complimented my outfit and when I asked him what exactly he liked about it, he said, "because you're wearing a shirt that actually fits".  Thanks honey.

Sailboat dress turned skirt

I am a creature of habit so here is yet another Malia vintage dress in a sailboat print.  But to my credit instead of reaching for my tried and true formula of a belt and cardigan, I decided to put a short sweater over the dress instead.  I've always loved the look on others and thought I'd try out something new.  It felt a bit odd not wearing a belt all day as I like to have my waist defined, but I definitely like the idea of having the option of wearing this as a dress or a skirt.  What are your thoughts on this top over a dress deal?  Have you tried it?  Liked it?

T by Alexander Wang asymmetrical dress

This T by Alexander Wang dress was my first maxi purchase this season and I haven't looked back since!  I have Grechen to thank for introducing me to this dress--the fabric is nice and heavy and drapes so well and the cut is a bit unique with a higher neck, skinnier shoulders and an asymmetrical hemline to show off your favorite shoes.  In my case, it's my new pair of grey suede No 6 woven clogs!  I am looking forward to wearing them more in the fall and winter months.  Here's a picture of Sydney wearing this same dress--it is really so gorgeous and flattering on all body types--if you can snag one on sale right now, go for it!

Vintage fish dress

This dress is definitely in my top three of vintage finds.  It's also one that has been the most transformed.  In it's original form, it was a maxi, three sizes too big and had a huge 70s collar.  The print was what sold me and I took it to my alterations lady where we conspired to change it into an entirely different dress. I received a lot of feedback yesterday when I wore it, including "I love your dress" from the female population and "wow, those are fish!" from the male population (thanks Captain Obvious).

Vintage Lookalike: Lina Rennell triangle top

A cold front moved in one day last week and lowered temperatures considerably.  By Texas standards, that meant that it was a high of 90 degrees and we all rejoiced and broke out our seldom worn cold weather items.  I pulled out a pair of cuffed jeans that I thought I wouldn't see till October and paired it with a favorite thrift/vintage find.  I have been in love with Lina Rennell's triangle print for a long time and was so pleased to find this top in a similar fun print.

Do the Polka

I found this vintage Japanese dress from a little place called the House of Japan.  It's made of a soft cotton with a bit of a sateen finish and I especially adore the snack pockets.  Pockets are a huge bonus when I'm considering a potential dress or skirt, how else can I have easy access to my snacks?  Looking at this picture now, I see that my belt and shoes don't match and that's been a common theme in most of my outfit pictures.  In college, I was known to wear different shades of blue at once.  Now I see I've added all shades of brown to the list.  I'm pretty sure that's not progress.

Weekend uniform

I had to challenge myself to get out of my weekend comfort clothing and into something more presentable.  This outfit was perfect for a day of shopping (yay comfort shoes) and kept me from sweltering in the heat.  If you love T by Alexander Wang t-shirts but not the unfortunate price tag, Target's Mossimo version is a pretty good dupe--it's light but nice and drapey like the original.  And the lower price point will help ease the pain of the eventual little holes these tees seem to get.  Or is it just me?
