June buys

Just back from CA and had a great shopping trip to H&M and Zara.  Everything bright pink and striped caught my eye as you can tell by the picture of my purchases below.  You'll be seeing these items in outfit pictures soon!

Vintage Lookalike: Lina Rennell triangle top

A cold front moved in one day last week and lowered temperatures considerably.  By Texas standards, that meant that it was a high of 90 degrees and we all rejoiced and broke out our seldom worn cold weather items.  I pulled out a pair of cuffed jeans that I thought I wouldn't see till October and paired it with a favorite thrift/vintage find.  I have been in love with Lina Rennell's triangle print for a long time and was so pleased to find this top in a similar fun print.

Pebble print

Found this 50s dress in Florida and fell hard for the pebble print.  Common sense would pair this busy print with simple accessories but I went for this Anthropologie necklace instead thinking how could you go wrong with mo' pebbles? :)

An apple a day...

Taking an outfit picture indoors this time since B sprayed for wasps on the patio.  Didn't think anyone would like to see action shots of me waving my arms wildly about me.  I'm a sucker for novelty printed skirts and the little apples on this skirt remind me of my teaching days.

Plenty of fish in the sea

I'm all Jcrew-ed out in this outfit.   This fish print skirt was huge score on ebay and I'm still dreaming of obtaining the navy dress version from that same year.

Bright prints

I love a good bright print and this vintage dress is one of my favorites.  A navy blazer helped tone it down a bit for work.  I finally broke out my new ring from Schatzelein, a great little local jewelry place that carries the most amazing designers.

Button down skirt

I was drawn to this periwinkle skirt immediately and after taking off 5 inches at the hem, it went from "sister wife" to a perfect breezy summer skirt.  I was stumped at first on what to pair with it and thankfully when Sydney mentioned "stripes", I was immediately sold.  I can't wait to try out more color combinations--what would you pair with this skirt?

Pleated skirt

Thought today would be a good day to bring this skirt out for a twirl.  I was so excited to get a text from my friend Sydney (Happy Birthday!) saying that she had found this for me.  Isn't it wonderful to have friends who keep a running list of things you might want in the back of their mind?  I know I do that often.  B says that it's just an excuse to shop and I must admit, I do love the thrill of the hunt.  I love it even more when I can pass on great finds to my friends and so I am especially excited to announce that Grechen, Sydney and I are combining forces and setting up shop so that we can share our love of fashion, vintage and a good deal with others.  I'll post more on that tomorrow!

Do the Polka

I found this vintage Japanese dress from a little place called the House of Japan.  It's made of a soft cotton with a bit of a sateen finish and I especially adore the snack pockets.  Pockets are a huge bonus when I'm considering a potential dress or skirt, how else can I have easy access to my snacks?  Looking at this picture now, I see that my belt and shoes don't match and that's been a common theme in most of my outfit pictures.  In college, I was known to wear different shades of blue at once.  Now I see I've added all shades of brown to the list.  I'm pretty sure that's not progress.

Gorjana Anchor Bracelet

I'm addicted to the nautical theme this year--sailboats, stripes, knots and now anchors.  This delicate bracelet by Gorjana is so pretty.  What are you loving this summer?

Weekend uniform

I had to challenge myself to get out of my weekend comfort clothing and into something more presentable.  This outfit was perfect for a day of shopping (yay comfort shoes) and kept me from sweltering in the heat.  If you love T by Alexander Wang t-shirts but not the unfortunate price tag, Target's Mossimo version is a pretty good dupe--it's light but nice and drapey like the original.  And the lower price point will help ease the pain of the eventual little holes these tees seem to get.  Or is it just me?

Vintage lookalike: Zara maxi skirt

I really love the bright spring and summer colors at Zara stores this season.  I got this pink maxi skirt and adore it so much and was delighted to find a blue version at a thrift store.  It probably is from the 90s era so technically not vintage but a score at $5 all the same.  It's a perfect length to wear with flat sandals and the blue has been surprisingly versatile to pair with various colors (white, grey, forest green, orange, etc.)

JW Hulme and another favorite Jcrew dress

Here is another one of my favorite Jcrew dresses this season.  I actually was going to pay full price for it (shocking) but finally it went on a mega sale and I snatched it right up.  The material is light and comfortable for the summer and I love that it has sleeves and a cinched in waist.  The stripes are just another huge plus--I went from zero to sixty in collecting striped items in my wardrobe this year.

I also wanted to give a shout out to my JW Hulme bag--it will be my go to bag this summer--it's lightweight, easy to wear cross body, and has amazing compartments inside for the freakishly organized.  JW Hulme products are made in the USA and have an amazing lifetime guarantee.
