Ilana Kohn Abby dress in leaf print

We had a glorious week this February where the temperatures were above 70 degrees and I immediately pulled out my new Ilana Kohn silk dress I'd been dying to wear.   This outfit is pretty representative of my style of late.  It's been flowy maxi dresses and cardigans or tunic shirts and slim pants.  I like to jokingly call it my "art teacher chic" phase.  And oh, I'm also obsessed with this new Object and Totem necklace made from hand thrown ceramic beads--I've been wearing it a ton lately and am super excited that Anthropologie picked up this line for the spring!

J.Crew Lucille in navy lace

This happens a lot during the allotted 30 seconds of picture taking each day--before BK gets bored and I get tired of smiling and looking sideways to see if any neighbors/golfers might be watching and judging.

(ps--don't the pups look so handsome with their new haircuts?)

Jcrew paisley blouson dress

I can't pass up a good paisley print and J.Crew undoubtedly makes the best ones.  This little sweater jacket was my first official fall purchase and it's super comfortable with a great shape and awesome leather pocket detail.

Madewell pillar skirt

Am loving this Madewell pillar skirt but it got all sorts of crinkly from a day at work.  It doesn't help that when I sit at my desk, I usually cross a foot under (half criss cross applesauce) so that's why you see the wrinkles at the bottom of the skirt as well.  Some people just can't have nice things...

Madewell maxi

I'm still on the hunt for cropped sweaters to wear with dresses and skirts.  I wore mine half tucked which probably looked a bit sloppy.  Next time I might employ the safety pin trick from Jentine and try a faux tuck.

Jcrew scalloped lace top

Here's another typical outfit from me--skirts and dresses are my daily work uniform.  I've been feeling a bit ambivalent about my outfits lately.  My style is neither quirky or outlandish and certainly not inspirational.  I do think I dress appropriately for work and for my body type so that's something at least.  Even if I feel boring sometimes at least I'm consistent :)

Here's what I wore to the first Hunt Gather Style pop up shop on Saturday.  Everything went so well and we had a blast styling outfits and chatting with everyone.  Can't wait for our next shop in October--stay tuned to the blog for more details!

4 in 1

I chose this outfit this weekend with the following criteria in mind:  1.  it had to be able to withstand 100 degree heat, 2. it had to be relatively cute and put together since we'd be estate sale hunting, and 3. it had to be comfortable so I could eat my weight in kettle corn at the Georgetown farmer's market.  This outfit stood the test and also had an unexpected added bonus of 4. allowing me some modesty while moving a whole bedroom suite and packing it into our SUV (soon to be featured on my other blog!).

Trying out a different spot to take outfit pictures but B and I couldn't figure out the whole light/shadow thing so we'll probably be back to the ol' patio next time.  That way the dogs can get in the pictures too because face it, they're really the stars of the show.

Plenty of fish in the sea

I'm all Jcrew-ed out in this outfit.   This fish print skirt was huge score on ebay and I'm still dreaming of obtaining the navy dress version from that same year.

Come and knock on my door...

One of my favorite things about vintage/estate sale hunting is finding treasures like this skirt.  It's a perfect way to try out a trend inexpensively and a bit more uniquely.  Especially since I'm sure hardly anyone will be wearing what I've dubbed the "Mrs. Roper" skirt.

Have I mentioned how much I'm loving maxi skirts this summer?  Except when you trip on the hem.  But at least your skirt will cover most of your legs in the fall.  Win-win.
