Polka dot skirt

This little polka dot skirt was a thrift score from Chicago.  It's made of some sort of silky poly material so it's perfect for 100 degree weather.  It's a bit difficult to be fashion inspired when it's so hot out--thank goodness for AC!

Tropicana

This dress was passed down to me from the lovely Andrea and I am in love!  It is so lightweight and flowy to wear, I've had to keep from reaching for it every day this long weekend.

Ice cream colors

Here what I wore to our vintage pop up shop at Madewell this weekend.  Super comfortable footwear is a must for shop days so I broke out my grandma-ish Worishofers (which are also my personal favorites for traveling and city walking).  I found this vintage mint skirt in Chicago last year and kept it b/c of the light fabric and drape.  Little did I know that mint would be in this spring!  Pairing it with a bright pink cardigan made me hungry for ice cream all day.  Which is actually quite the norm for me so I guess I can't lay all the blame on the outfit.

Polka dots and stripes

Crazy pattern mixing going on with this outfit. This pleated polka dot skirt was a huge thrift score and I was so excited about all the possible pairings--hot pink!  kelly green!  even my beloved grey!  And then when it came time to debut the skirt, I couldn't find any tops that were work appropriate (darn deep V necks) or didn't have a hole or two (I'm looking at you tissue tees!)  Time to focus on getting some nice quality basic tops!

Blue and green

Spring is here!  And one of my favorite tried and true color combinations is blue + green.  I'm also looking forward to trying coral + mint, purple + turquoise and of course adding splashes of neon pink to navy and greys.  What color combinations do you love for spring?

Here's the only outfit picture I've been able to muster since spring break/the flu.  Loving this flamingo tee from Etcetera--it's going to get worn a lot this summer!

Vintage lookalike: Equipment floral top

This floral button down top was one of my favorite Iowa finds along with a couple of other cool tops that will be at hunt.gather.style.  The print reminds me of an Equipment top that I almost splurged for and am glad I didn't!

Rearranging

Welcome to daylight savings time and a new change of scenery!  Since it's pitch black dark when I get home now, B and I are trying to figure out another suitable location to take outfit pictures.  (well, I am, B naively thought we'd just stop outfit pictures all together--sucker) As you can see, not only do we have limited knowledge on how to operate our fancy camera, we also aren't quite sure about lighting.  Do you stand under the light, by the light, away from the light?  The puppies are also quite confused by the new location. We'll get it together soon enough!

Shoes: No. 6 / Joie

I wore my No. 6 clogs with this outfit for the day but came home to these gorgeous Joies waiting for me.  What do you guys think about "shooties" (it's a shoe, no, it's a boot!).  I like the unique look but the heel is a bit unwieldy and you know how I like my comfort shoes...

Secretary blouse

I never fail to visit a H&M when I'm near one and recently found this gem of a top in NYC.  I've been trying to curb my spending at H&M because it's rare that I keep a piece of theirs longer than a season or two.  Still, they are a nice way to try out a trend for minimal dollars and this secretary blouse with a tie front is impressive at just $10.  The fabric is actually quite lovely and light and drapes well and the print works perfectly for fall. I'm plotting on how to wear it next, perhaps under a blazer or cardigan!

And a bonus picture, just because I think Link is mocking me: looking down and putting his left foot oh so delicately in front of his right.

Color pencil skirt

The story of my bright colored pencil skirt:
  • I've always loved bright pencil skirts (Jcrew's to be exact) and so...
  • was ecstatic to find this one at an estate sale for $1.  One dollar!
  • It fits perfectly through the waist and hips, though
  • of course I had to get it hemmed, but still, one dollar!
  • There's a bit of linen in the fabric so I was wrinkle city by the end of the day
  • Especially after a 45 minute commute.
  • I thought about photoshopping
  • Then realized I don't know how to photoshop
  • And I like to keep it real anyway (ie. too lazy to learn how to photoshop)
  • So here's the picture, wrinkles and all.
  • And amazingly after I hung up the skirt, the wrinkles fell right out.  $1!
  • I cannot get over the lovely bright blue and of course, thought it paired perfectly with stripes.
  • And of course...it was $1!
  • The end.

Jcrew chambray tuxedo shirt

I'm still on the hunt for the perfect chambray shirt.  This Jcrew tuxedo one distracted me for a while with its pleated front but it's still not exactly what I'm looking for.  My criteria: fitted in a soft, thin material; dark wash with minimal contrast stitching.  Any leads?

Jcrew madras popover

I really love plaid shirts and the print on this popover is one of my favorites.  It's a little tricky to find plaids that aren't too masculine or straight from the farm.  This thrifted denim skirt is a workhorse in my wardrobe, perfect for casual fridays or the weekend.  I'm once again photo-bombed by Kirby and a golfer in the top right hand side.  Fore!

Group picture

Had a great time at the 499 dresses charity dress sale yesterday.  We helped some stylish ladies pick out dresses, chatted about fashion and spent time with good friends.  I ended up with a couple of items, including a dress with a scandalous past (see Andrea's post about it here).  Pictured in the group outfit of the day is Sydney looking fabulous as usual in bold colors and Theresa in a maternity creation that she just whipped up again.  This woman is seriously talented!

DVF cropped jacket

I got this little DVF jacket from a front stoop sale in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.  These fashionable gals had a rack of their vintage and gently used clothing for sale and I picked up this winner for $10!  Also they complimented me on my shoes and I didn't detect any mocking or sarcasm in their tone so score one for comfort shoes!  I'm usually shy with mixing patterns but went with it anyway.  Can't wait to pair this jacket with a maxi dress next!
