Vintage crescent moon and star expandable bracelet

I forgot to save a picture of my actual outfit so instead we just have this close up and an opportunity to talk about my favorite accessories of the moment!  This vintage tiny kissing mice belt is definitely a favorite among my animal belt collection (just don't tell the others!) and I recently acquired this vintage bracelet with a crescent and star motif.  These expandable bracelets were popular in the 1940s during the war, given to sweethearts by their soldiers.  Part of the reason why I love vintage items is that I always feel like there's a bit of history attached to them, and hopefully happy memories as well.

Color pencil skirt

The story of my bright colored pencil skirt:
  • I've always loved bright pencil skirts (Jcrew's to be exact) and so...
  • was ecstatic to find this one at an estate sale for $1.  One dollar!
  • It fits perfectly through the waist and hips, though
  • of course I had to get it hemmed, but still, one dollar!
  • There's a bit of linen in the fabric so I was wrinkle city by the end of the day
  • Especially after a 45 minute commute.
  • I thought about photoshopping
  • Then realized I don't know how to photoshop
  • And I like to keep it real anyway (ie. too lazy to learn how to photoshop)
  • So here's the picture, wrinkles and all.
  • And amazingly after I hung up the skirt, the wrinkles fell right out.  $1!
  • I cannot get over the lovely bright blue and of course, thought it paired perfectly with stripes.
  • And of course...it was $1!
  • The end.

Jcrew chambray tuxedo shirt

I'm still on the hunt for the perfect chambray shirt.  This Jcrew tuxedo one distracted me for a while with its pleated front but it's still not exactly what I'm looking for.  My criteria: fitted in a soft, thin material; dark wash with minimal contrast stitching.  Any leads?

hunt.gather.style pop up shop tomorrow!

Tomorrow's the big day for our second hunt.gather.style pop up shop at Touch of Sass from 1-4pm at Touch of Sass (5th and Lamar).  We've squirreled away some really awesome vintage items: animal brooches, belts, fur collars, tweed skirts, jewel tone wool blazers and flirty secretary blouses.  We've also done quite a bit of closet cleaning and there are some great sweaters and contemporary items (even a DVF wrap dress!) in the shop as well.  Hope to see you there!

Cropped sweater

Today's outfit picture is a two-fer.  I like the one on the patio because it shows that my skirt isn't actually dragging on the ground and plus Link is in it (sorta).  B likes the one on the right because the background is nicer, I'm just not so sure about the shaft of light on my torso :)  Outfit pictures are still trial and error around here and while I'm excited that we're getting a new camera lens soon (surely it'll be magical enough to get us clearer/better pictures without having to actually learn how to use the darn camera), fall/winter is catching up to us and soon it'll be pitch black dark in the evenings.  Which means we're going to need a new location (possibly inside) and time (oh no not mornings!) for outfit pictures.  Any tips?  What's your outfit picture routine?

I'm in Cinci-tucky this week visiting with family, so this outfit is actually from last week.  I love Link's little nose lick here, missing the pups a lot!

vintage for the modern woman

Here's what I wore to a taping of Austin YNN's Style Guide at Touch of Sass (thank you Grechen for the picture!).  Sydney was our wonderful spokesperson and chatted with Anne Hudson about our upcoming shop and our vision to provide vintage clothing for the modern woman.  The video is up and can be viewed here!

Plaid skirt

I've been pulling out my favorite summer pieces to wear for the next few weeks before they go into storage for the next five months or so.   While I'll be sad to say goodbye to this plaid skirt, I'm pretty sure I have plenty of plaid button downs ready to help me greet fall!

We Love Vera

Vera Neumann is one of my favorite artists.  I am obsessed with her textile prints as evidenced here and am so happy that Anthropologie collaborated and created the clothing brand "We Love Vera", bringing her wonderful prints to the masses.  This apple print top is from that collection and while kind of kitschy, the teacher in me couldn't quite pass it up.  Link is directing a pretty puzzled look at my footwear.  He must be wondering why I'm not wearing clogs...

Turtle power

A hot pink silk button down has been on my wishlist for a while now.  I keep hoping J.crew or Madewell or someone would come up with a version but nothing so far.  Rummaging through an estate sale this past weekend, this bright color caught my eye and while it's not silk, the $1 price tag and the fact that it actually fits made me grab it quickly.  Paired here with another animal belt, this time kissing turtles!

Madewell fall wishlist

A few items I'd love to add to my fall wishlist: more silk button down tops, a lace tee, and a warm and fuzzy jacket.  Have you gotten anything from Madewell recently?

From L to R: peppered boucle jacket; silk bookmark blouse; scallop lace top;silk printmaker shirt

Florals and clogs

Here's a repeat of one of my favorite dresses.  This is the only blazer I own that is boyfriend cut and I can't help but feel like I'm in Miami Vice when I wear it.  These black clog sandals are from the wonderful Nina Z who I had the pleasure of meeting at the Brooklyn Flea.  They're a perfect addition to my collection!

Jcrew madras popover

I really love plaid shirts and the print on this popover is one of my favorites.  It's a little tricky to find plaids that aren't too masculine or straight from the farm.  This thrifted denim skirt is a workhorse in my wardrobe, perfect for casual fridays or the weekend.  I'm once again photo-bombed by Kirby and a golfer in the top right hand side.  Fore!
